I have looked up if there were any differences and really the only thing I am seeing is input and output shafte spline counts.
Both are 26 spline, the LS1 Fbody shaft is longer.

They are rated by torque not horsepower.

I have a T56 Magnum in my '55 Bel Air. It's the wide ratio version. They've recently released a version of wide ratio with a little different ratios. The T56 Magnum is rated at 700 ft.lbs.

Which is funny they say that because if you take the Fbody (adding in a Viper 2nd Gear), Corvette, or GTO T56, Shim the shafts to zero lash, and add the "Stage 2" Kit they are supposed to handle 750hp/tq.
The magnum has wider gears so that def helps.

I really like the 2.97 first mine has in my Bel Air with 3.55 gears. I like the .50 6th too for a highway cruising gear for great mileage.
The newer Magnum wide keeps the 2.97 first but changes 6th to .63.
The close Magnum has similar gearing to the f body T56. 2.66 first and .63 6th.

The Fbody has the 2.66 1st but with the .50 6th. You can change whatever you wanted though in 5&6 as long as you have the right parts
