Currently I have an 84 monte ss with a 5.3 lm7 and a muncie m20. I want to upgrade to a t56 magnum and have the shifter come up through the factory center console. From what I've seen most guys use a f body trans witch has the shifter mounted 3 inches further back. I couldn't really find anyone anyone that swapped a magnum in. So does anyone have good pictures of where their shifter comes out at with an ls set back all the way? If you've swapped a f body t56 in would there be room for the shifter to go forward? And if anyone has put a t56 magnum in I'd like to hear their input too.

I have a f body t56 in my grand prix with the stock console. I actually had to move the shifter stick backwards about 1 1/2" and to the left 1" and up 2" or more so it would fit in the hole where the shifter goes.

It would probably fit 3" forward without a console, or maybe a 3rd gen f body console, but you will need a shifter stick that bends backwards or you will be leaning forward like granny in order to shift. I used a 4th gen 6 speed boot off ebay.

you have a lot of variables to contend with. t56 magnums have 4 shifter positions, with the farthest two are 3" apart. f-body t56 trannys have two different lengths between lt1 and ls1 trannys. then you have the ls motor mount variables and where they position the motor. if you google "t56 dimensions" you will find a lot of info.

I posted that I had a ls mounted in the furthest back position. I'm also familiar with the dimensions. I'm asking advice from someone who has done this.
