Does anyone know what is the clay like material used on all the retaining nuts on the taillight assembly. I want to change my 84 taillights to a pair od 81-83 lights but i don't want any leaks into the trunk. Can i buy this material somewhere?

Nobody...lol, 24 views i figured someone would know what that stuff is, i guess we are all gonna be perplexed, if i don't use that clay like stuff will i get leaks in my trunk from changing my taillights?

You could probably use butyl or ductseal to keep any moisture out, if it was sealed from the factory I would want to reseal it. I think the factory stuff is similar to the ductseal.

Actually, I think what you need is called rope caulk. Check with NAPA or Oreillys. It comes in a roll and it doesn't really get hard. I am afraid the other stuff may glue it together. This is what the factory used. Seals but will separate. Hope this helps. Tim
