TBI engine

If I get a TBI engine to replace a carb engine in my 79, do I need the computer from the donor vehicle? Does TBI use a computer?

My gut tells me there has to be some electronics controlling it, but not sure?

Found someone doing an ls swap letting an engine & transmission go cheap. Just want to be informed before looking into it!

If you want to incorporate the TBI then yes. Lots of work but look at just keeping the new engine carbed

Is it a verifiable 350? TBI heads are nothing special. But the block will be set up for a roller cam. If you get it cheap enough and it's not trashed, swap a set of Vortec heads and carbed intake plus a cam up to 0.460 lift and it would be a good runner.

if he already has it in his, and it's running, you might want to see if he'd let it go with the computer and associated wiring, there's more to just throwing it in and getting the computer wired in, you have to think about the speed sensor, trans lockup,security key, etc...
