Has anybody else come across the issue i am having. I replaced the speedo housing with an aluminum one and a new speedo gear and the square hole in the gear almost looks too big for the speedo cable. I hooked a drill up to the cable and the speedometer inside works. Its a new one piece cable as well? Am i missing something?

Oh and it wont stop leaking

This is the housing and gear i have

Im not sure what else i need to change

Where is it leaking from? Sounds like you got a bad or misaligned seal?

There may be a separate square metal tip that may be on the end of the speedo cable. I say MAY be. Not all of them used them. Sometimes the bastages were plastic as well. Did you check for that on the old gear? Did you compare the holes on the old gear and new gear?

Hey sorry i took so long to answer

Its leaking from speedo gear. I have all new o-rings and everything. Unless transmission itself is damaged somewhere inside

My dad mentioned a small adapter he saw back in the day that goes over speedo cable to fit in gear. I cant find it anywhere online. I think thars what i need
Is that what you mean by metal tip?

It was never there on old or new and it always leaked. Previous owner globbed a ton of gasket putty type stuff to stop the leak

You got pictures of the old and new speedo gear holes and housings? Along with the speedo cable end? It may help with perspective. It's hard to know what we're looking at if we can't all see it.

I don't know about the 200 but on the 400 turbo there are two different sized speedo gear housings and the one you use depends on which gear you use.

My 200C uses the bullet style speedo drive, so YMMV, but when I regeared mine the new gear would not allow the speedo cable to seat fully. This caused a LOT of bind in the speedometer cable, and would not allow the cable to screw fully on. This also shoved the shaft of the gear into the transmission, which could have sheared the shaft off of the gear.

In my case, I found the tip of the speedometer cable was about 3/16ths too long, and would bottom out before the ferrule would seat against the gear. I dremeled the excess off of the end and reinstalled the cable, and didn't have any more issues.

I think that silver piece is what I need too. The square hole in the TH400 speedo gear looks too big for the Cutlass speedo cable
