After failing at bending the POS Pypes tail pipe I went to the Q-Jet I got last weekend. The known factors are it's a '85 (March '85 based on main body casted date code) for a truck with an auto. It has signs of a past rebuild (has a epoxy in plug at the fuel/filter inlet, clear sealer on the electric choke.) Looks like it had a clean storage, no grime. The big unkown is the specific ID code since someone grinded it off. I would like to atleast reseal it but with an unknown history a rebuild would be the best course. I'm just trying to figure out which kit to get. It's bad enough I still have the Holley 4175 (what was on the old engine) to rebuild & now I have a Q-Jet to do. Atleast I'll have options on which to use when I get them done. But any ideas on what other ID marks there might be to look for?

I have no idea why someone would grind off the code. But since it is I would just use that quadrajet for parts.

I bought a reman Q-jet from Summit when I ditched the CCC carb on the Monte. They apparently are some of the offenders who grind off the numbers. The carb currently resides on my 80 K10. When I needed some pieces for it I ordered from Qjet.com, you can match up what you have there. When I was a kid working at an auto parts store no number = no rebuild kit for you.

I did get the one thing stamped on the top passenger front that I forgot about.

It could be a Frankencarb made from all sorts of parts. I'd open it and see what gives. It may have some pretty good jetting since it was on a truck. At least it does not have the idle enrichment solenoid many '80's trucks used. It otherwise looks like a decent carb. Some online carb parts places show the air horn gasket for comparison so you can match yours up.

It has been years since I had a Q-Jet since I have been using the Holley since 2000. If it is odd I'll have to go with I'm told. I can't remember that far back.
