Great find! Seems a little pricier now than what I remember at JC Whitney. But I'd still recommend it.

Whoa!. Figured I'd just coming a-wandering by to see if anything additional had popped up. Like was noted above, JC Whitney not only doesn't make that tool any more, it doesn't even list it by another name
E-Bay is great, IF you have a serpentine belt!! More pictures and video how-tos of them in various shapes and conditions V-Belts not so much.
Going to check out that E-Bay tool but also headed over to a brother's place cause he has turnbuckles and I can use one of them to whittle out a custom tensioning tool.
Yeah, yeah, I know fabrication pictures?? If I remember to, I'll think about it but I am not going to cut it apart to show you how to do it and then have to reweld it all over again like those guys on horsepower used to have to do. Sucked to be them.

Oh, yeah, sorry no ear for a Johnson bar on my bracket. Think that if I ever had one of those it went the way of the motor it was attached to; that went to the boat anchor graveyard multiple decades ago. 231 was so worn out I had to run straight 50 weight in the winter! to get any oil pressure when the motor was warm.
Back in the day when it was the old JC Whitney was when the had it. What is called JC Whitney today is nothing like or even near what alot of us remembers. There are alot of cool & useful parts, tools & accesories that back in the day they had I wish was still available like the bow style headliner kits to replace the foam board ones in our cars.
Looks like someone is tensioning the primary belt drive on his not so stock Harley Nice idea-not enough room. Pulled a tape to measure the between distance on the pulleys and came away with 2.75 inches all in. Did find an aluminum turnbuckle body that I thought I could introduce to the lathe to get the length I needed but found out that only a 1/4 inch on each end was threaded!!. The balance of the body is hollow and hex sized to boot. Can't even throw a tap at it.
Plan B- is to fab something up using a coupling nut and a pair of 3/8ths eye bolts. The eye bolts have already been welded closed where the loop curves back meet the thread; did that this afternoon. Did manage to cut one and open the loop up until it was almost flat. Bad news, the 3/8ths is too wide to fit into the groove. Going to have to apply a taper to it using a grinder and a flap wheel to get it to sit right down into the pulley. Have to do the same thing for the other one. May also have to shorten the coupling nut by a thread or two and clip a couple off the threaded portion of the eye bolt to gain a few more mike-mikes of installation room. How it will work is that one end of the c-nut has had its threads drilled out to 3/8ths meaning the eye bolt just spins in the hole. The other end still has its threads and turning the c-nut will cause the eyebolt to screw out or in. Out causes the pulley to shift away which puts tension on the belt.
There is a high probability that there will be no pictures of this Rube Goldberg device simply because it is so ugly that the camera might not want to record it for posterity-( or posterior because butt ugly it surely is)-.

The tool you posted starts at 4.50", I used a prybar with a terry cloth towel wrapped around it adjust mine in no time.Sheeze, why not just shell out, what, 30 bucks? I don't know if I want to follow this ....
