Thermostat housin

Might sound like a dumb question but will a leaking thermostat housing cause my regal to over heat?

It may be leaking because your thermostat isn't opening

There is a slim possibility that it could allow an air pocket creating an overheat condition. I have never seen it on a G body but have on many other makes. Easy fix, replace t-stat with name brand and right temp. Patience on bolts if there will not budge. If they are frozen cut the housing away first. Many times the bolts are froze to the housing and not the intake

Short answer: Yes, but that probably isn't your Actual Problem. Thermostat probably is. Test it in a pan of boiling water, see if it opens up.

it could be a defective cap allowing too much pressure to be built up

I would replace the thermostat and if need so the housing as well. Because sometimes they warp.
