Heading to the Junk yard this weekend. Found a GTO in there with a Rear end that I fancy.
This is not a complaint, but your capitalization and word choices make for an entertaining read. By chance are you new to the US? Please don't be insulted if I have this completely wrong.

Since you are considering a manual transmission, you might try an F-body/S10 T-5. There is a general dislike for these, as they do not handle a lot of torque, but given your 2.14 gears and soft 307, you might consider this swap. An S-10 T-5 has a 4:1 granny gear, and a fairly mild 0.86 or so overdrive, but with a 2.14 final drive, this might work out. The hardest part will be finding a flywheel for a 307, then adding pedals and clutch linkage, but bellhousings are out there. Finally, you will have to make a mashup transmission to put the shifter in the right place. But, if you want an engineering challenge, read through this recent thread:

I just have a bad habit of nailing the shift key. I notice it if I read over what I've typed. I'm 100% American from Oregon. If my word choice is strange it usually points straight to my Redneck heritage.

I know that in German, most of the nouns are capitalized. My fat fingers are nowhere near as consistent. I just hit random wrong keys. Don't worry about it. I thought my comment might lead to an interesting story.

Glad you are finding joy with your new ride.

I had another thought. A simpler immediate solution would be to locate a good 700-R4 transmission. These have a deep 1st gear to get a big car moving while still allowing mileage at highway speeds. You would not need 4th gear much with 2.14s, but it would make your acceleration a bit snappier. You will need to either locate a BOP-pattern 700-R4 or buy an adapter kit to put a Chevy pattern behind the 307. The flexplate bolt pattern for the torque converter is the same. I believe that the big Cadillacs might have used BOP 700-R4s, so you might look around to see what you can find. Consensus is that 1988 and later units are stronger. You will need to set up a lockup feature for the transmission. Here is a link:

Sounds like you are having a blast. Cannot beat the enthusiasm from a new project!

I had put either 2.14 or 2.29 gears in my MCSS one year to aid with gas mileage to/from my GF at the time who was hundreds of kilometers away at school (I was attending Brock, she was at Nipissing). With the 200-4R and the built 355 it went stupid fast in 3rd gear, and it would cruise at like 1500rpm at 140km/h. The things we do when we are young.

Well I'm not planning on having 2.14s for long. I ordered those UMI control arms to adapt an A body rear end to my car. The 66 GTO at the junk yard should have 3.08's or shorter. I'm going on Sunday to pull it. I'm definitely considering all options. I appreciate the input about the 700R4. I definitely want to get a transmission soon, but I'm thinking about getting something newly re-manufactured that can handle torque. I don't want to buy a transmission with the 307 in mind because I don't plan to keep that engine.

Not sure if you know this or not but Buick Olds and Pontiac 12 bolts are different from Chevy 12 bolts

Not sure... they do say 12 bolt

But i would assume they would work since the A body's came with both
