Hey out there. An interesting story I'd like to share. I've already owned 4 Oldsmobile Vehicles in the last 5 years after buying and selling nearly a dozen AMC cars. 79 Hurst Olds - 79 Hurst Olds Clone - 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic and a 1986 442. I've enjoyed them as they are well built cars. In my small town of S.C. there is a 1980 442 behind a transmission shop that I'd been trying to buy for 15 years. In borderline condition to save, interior looks like someone threw a hand grenade inside and shut the doors.
Anyway, got a call from a customer at the golf course I work and the gentleman said there was a 80 442 for sale some 10 miles away. My reaction was "You're blanking me?" Sure enough, same color black-gold, same vin - same car. What is the chances with only 886 built. Nice shape original paint rust free - interior was complete but fair shape. The original owner started to restore but unfortunately passed away. Rebuilt rocket 350 from a 70 Olds - rebuilt transmission, new windshield, exhausts, carburetor, tires etc. many other interior parts. I couldn't buy it fast enough as the chances of 2 1980 442's within a 15 mile radius when 886 were built is highly unlikely.
Here are a few before and after pictures. It's not OEM as I color changed it because in the south black cars are hot to the touch. I still have to eventually get bumpers.
I say death do us part because my wife helps me on my restoration and all I talked about was that god awful shape 442 behind that transmission shop and this build was not easy.
Thanks for letting me share
