Hey out there. An interesting story I'd like to share. I've already owned 4 Oldsmobile Vehicles in the last 5 years after buying and selling nearly a dozen AMC cars. 79 Hurst Olds - 79 Hurst Olds Clone - 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic and a 1986 442. I've enjoyed them as they are well built cars. In my small town of S.C. there is a 1980 442 behind a transmission shop that I'd been trying to buy for 15 years. In borderline condition to save, interior looks like someone threw a hand grenade inside and shut the doors.
Anyway, got a call from a customer at the golf course I work and the gentleman said there was a 80 442 for sale some 10 miles away. My reaction was "You're blanking me?" Sure enough, same color black-gold, same vin - same car. What is the chances with only 886 built. Nice shape original paint rust free - interior was complete but fair shape. The original owner started to restore but unfortunately passed away. Rebuilt rocket 350 from a 70 Olds - rebuilt transmission, new windshield, exhausts, carburetor, tires etc. many other interior parts. I couldn't buy it fast enough as the chances of 2 1980 442's within a 15 mile radius when 886 were built is highly unlikely.
Here are a few before and after pictures. It's not OEM as I color changed it because in the south black cars are hot to the touch. I still have to eventually get bumpers.
I say death do us part because my wife helps me on my restoration and all I talked about was that god awful shape 442 behind that transmission shop and this build was not easy.
Thanks for letting me share

Super nice! Since I'm in TX, I 100% understand the Black to light color-change desire.

Gorgeous car. A much better 350 is also a bonus.

Thanks guys, yeah I'm not sure how much horsepower my 350 puts out, but I am QUITE CERTAIN that it puts out more than the 79 Hurst Olds or 80 442 350

Sweet. You're not far from me, would love to hook up at the Run to the Sun, or Auto Fair (if they ever have it, again 🙄). I had my '79 Aeroback 442, back in the day, and the gentleman who lived next door to us, a lawyer with the Attorney-General's office in Ottawa, Canada, had a black one like yours. He was the first guy injured when the Canadians went ashore at Dieppe. Now long gone, as, I suspect, is the car. Mine was a 305-4V SBC and Saginaw 4-speed, his was the W-31 350 Olds with a TH350.

And, much prettier than mine!
