What's everyone using for a dial back timing light?
I've looked at all the new junk on line and see many many of them with reviews stating they work once, or not at all.
Or, am I better off putting a degreed tape on the balancer and use my 30 yr old Craftsman (fixed strobe) that works, every time?
Stuck it on the Olds last year and the initial is off the scale on the timing tab, and I'd only be guessing at the total.

I have the Equus digital dial back with rpm function. Very handy to find total advance and the rpm it comes in at.

I have an Equus, I like the lightweight design and narrow adjustable head that gets in the tight confines of my Monte engine bay, works well and is very bright.

I've done it both ways, the dial back's good if all you have is just a pointer.if the balancer's degree'd or has the tape i use the standard.

Now that’s my kind of setup! That’s the kind of stuff I buy for no reason other that to piss off my wife, when I die she is going to have a lot of crap to sell lol, but I’m fond of my digital set back one
It's a hand-me-down from pops. It has a starter bump button, compression gauge, vacuum gauge, dwell meter, and of course, a timing light. I'll guess it's early 80s....

I've got an older digital snap on that was my grandpa's. It's an mt2261(?). I like it. Dialback, rpm, etc.

You could just mark the balancer and use what you have. Measure the diameter and figure out where your total is supposed to be. Mark the balancer set the rpm and hit it with your light. That's how I do it. Seems to work fine and I don't need another timing light
