I just got an 83 4 door Malibu and want to change the wheels and tires. My dad has a set of 15x8 or 15x8.5 torque thrust wheels he giving me to put on it. What would be a good size tire for that to fill the wheel well out but not rub too bad as this car will be my daily.

Depends on the back spacing more than the actual width. I think 3.5 inch for 8 inch wide rims and 4.5 inch for 10 inch rims if I recall correctly. Hopefully someone will come around and clear it up for sure. I need to get some wheels for all of my cars, think I'm going to put stock C3 Corvette alloys on my El Camino, Weld Pro Stars on my T Type, and aluminum Grand National replicas or GNX replicas on my Grand National, probably 7 or 8 inch on the front and 10 inch on the back.

What were they on or purchased for originally? The easy answer is 8 or 8.5 inch wide rims are not too wide and can look really good but the width alone isn't the whole story.

I’m not 100% sure on the backspacing. I’m going to pick them up on Sunday. He said they were 4” but I don’t think that was an exact measurement, more of a guess. The last thing they were on was a 94 s10.

I'm pretty sure if they were on an S10 they'll fit fine on your car the backspacing should be close enough as long as it was a 2wd S10, the 4x4 ones have more backspacing because their axles are a couple inches wider than the 2wd version.

235\60\15 on all 4 corners gives you the opportunity to swap wheels and tires front to back. You can push 245 but may get more rub. The 235's rub on my front sway bar under full lock as-is

I have 255/60/15 on 8" wheels with 4" backspace on the back, I Tried them on the front but they rub in fenders and inner wheel well, I switched to 235/60/15 on the front and have no issues
