You can't fit a taller tire than what you have. You need more sidewall for a plusher ride, drop down to a 16" or a 15"...

Monte's have a pretty generous wheel well and it is round so I don't see why you can't go taller
Just for comparison a BFG 245/45R17 on a 8" rim has a height of 25.6" the factory 215/65R15 is 26".
I have 28" tall rear and 27.5" fronts on a lowered Monte with no issues.

I ran 225-75-15 tires on my wagons. Pretty cushy ride. The problems were with the front wheels rubbing now and then. But I did not science out the wheel offset and back spacing. I just used what I had.

Now that I think about it that was with American Racing 15" wheels. Unsure what the offset was and I got light rub up front on severe turns. I also used stock Pontiac Firebird Rally II 15" wheels and nothing rubbed at all with those tires. Perhaps stock Monte alloy wheels would be right?
