When starting your project car for the first time, make sure the loose end of the speedo cable is secured out of harm's way. That brand new cable WILL melt on the exhaust

Breaking in the cam is not good for your new Dorman vacuum reservoir, they tend to melt due to the proximity to the exhaust manifold, and then collapse due to the vacuum inside D'oh!

Have a ventilation plan, the crossflow from the man door and overhead door isn't going to effectively evacuate the fumes and smoke from all that new paint and oil film on everything

Despite having successfully broken in a dozen new cams in my life, all the internet talk about cam failures makes this old man nervous. It's rollers for me from now on (donor car/fresh engine already had flat tappet cam in it)

Just because it runs, doesn't mean it's anywhere close to driving...the devil is in the details, they say

Permanent Temporary
Engine and header paint make an amazing amount of smoke during that 20-minte break-in.

(I don't get credit for this one today...Ribbedroof does!)
