Yep,the Monte is finally coming out of winter hibernation.
Last fall before I put it away the engine started smoking and burning oil and my buddy Mark told me that I could have some room at the shop to pull the big block out.
It was working so bad that I have made arrangements with my Haggerty roadside assistance plan to have it towed from storage out to Mark's shop this morning.
So if all goes well I should have the engine out either Tuesday or Wednesday.I have to wait for help to get the hood off and Mark is off on a fishing trip.
I'm hoping for something simple like bad intake gaskets, but I should know for sure sometime this week.
Fingers are crossed it's not piston or cylinder related, this block is pretty much at the end of it's life span.
It's already at 0.070 over and a sonic test showed that there's not enough meat left for another oversize and I don't really care for the idea of a liner.
I'll keep you posted !!

Well hopefully it is nothing major, sleeving the block is not cost effective when you have options like Dart, World or Blueprint for aftermarket blocks and if you do end up needing a block at least you would have the option to keep it a 513 BBC and use your existing rotating assembly or go bigger if you like but then your current top end will be the limiting factor.

Dingle ball hone, fresh rings, vacuum pump, add a blower and send it.

So this is a 4.375 stroke with 4.32 bore and I will assume a 9.80 deck?
Just curious what length connecting rod you have in there.

I've been thinking about this. And to answer your other question they are Molnar 6.48 inch long rods with AutoTec pistons with custom pin heights.
If this block is toast,I could re-use all my parts with new 4.500 inch pistons in an aftermarket block and build a 556 CI BB.
I think that my AFR 315 heads would still work good with this combo.
I even priced a new Brodix cast iron block at the local speed and machine shop,my price would be $ 3750 in Canadian dollars.
Then add on $ 1000-1500 in machine work and then 15 % tax and this would be a $ 6000.00 + block.
From looking at Summit the Brodix is the cheaper of the aftermarket blocks in this size.

My buddy last year bought a crank and rods for his 632 BBC from Molnar but he still hasn't picked the short block up yet from the machine shop.
I have seen the parts a couple times they look like they do nice work.

I forget that you are in Canada and have to deal with the price difference and extra shipping.

Yeah,we get hosed pretty good up here.
I believe that Brodix block goes for app $ 2100.00 in US dollars, and I think its free shipping from Summit.
AFAIK,none of the aftermarket come as a finished ready to run block,I think they all need some degree of machine work.
Bore/plate hone,block decked,etc...
