my buddy just bought one for 450 bucks a couple weeks ago! BUT i believe that was a once in a lifetime deal! They are getting harder to find and are only getting more expensive IMO...

I was thinking about offering $800 and going from there. My limit is basically $1000 and I'm almost sure he would take it.

Sounds like a fair price. I've seen some very clean examples go for more when fresh with new seals, posi, bearings, etc and ready to bolt in. Other ragged out, rusty housings with open carriers I have seen sell as low as $5-600. These things are definitely getting harder to find and setting up a complete Ford 9" in a G body is expensive.

Bought my 9 in years ago - paid $600 for housing and axles (order w/gm ends and transferred my brakes) Bought a gear set for $150, bearing kit for $90 a case for $50 and a spool for $130 . Ever think of using an A body 8.5, an 8.8??

Good point. If I had to set another car up I would look very hard at the A body set up using conversion control arms. The A body rear is a little wider which is a good thing for stuffing wide tires under a G body. The limiting factor for tire fitment on a G body with a factory rear and stock wheel offset is frame rub, not the quarter panel.
