Hello,

Where can I find the towing capacity off my 1979 malibu coupe? it has a 305 in it.
On the tow bar I can't find any numbers or weights, and no sticker In my doors

What are trying to tow? They make trucks these days, ya know?
Lol

Only like one or twice a year I'm towing my RV, It only weights about 2200lbs or something.
Every year we have this event in my country, a weekend for US cars only.

No struggles with towing or what so, but in my country your towing capacity needs to be registered, but at the moment it isn't, so when I'm towing right now i'm "illegal"

Class 2 frame mounted receiver hitches for our cars are rated at 3500 pounds gross weight & 350 pounds of tongue weight.

That shouldn't be a problem.

According to the 1980 owner's manual, never exceed 5000 pounds towed weight. Also states that any trailer over 1000 pounds requires trailer brakes.

I would imagine that the 1979 manual is similar

If you tell them a made up number would they even know the difference?
Wouldn't know really

Would say so, hope they find a owners manual good enough. Gonna check if my manual says anything about towing

I have a link in my profile to a set of plans for a receiver hitch for my wagon. Might be close to what you need to fabricate a receiver hitch for your coupe.
