So my transmission started making this weird grinding noise, does anybody know what the cause of this could be? Everytime I shift to drive I hit around 10mp and it begins , then when I shift to reverse it sounds even louder... and yes the transmission has oil the last oil change was about 700 miles ago
it sounds like it can a major issue, i really don't know but I'm not that worried about it because luckily my other transmission just got finished being rebuilt so my dad and I will be putting in a new transmission this weekend or the next but I'm still curious as in to what this could be.

Pull it apart and see. I had a TH400 that sh*t the case lugs out once - but that caused the whole driveline to lock up.

didn't see what trans it is, but if it's a th350 it's probably the sprag has cracked. fixed my friends a while back and he said the same thing was going on in his. he also said his sounded like a swishing sound.

I'll throw this one out there, could it be the internal shift detent? Something could of got loose or bent causing it to make contact with moving parts near it. I had one lock a TH350 into 1st & made both a physically involed fun time backing up & a slow load drive it from Pitssburghs' South Side to home on the North Side.
