Hey Guys I’m currently looking for a transmission for my 86 Monte 4.3L. Any advice on where’s the best place to find one. Are the ones at O Reilly’s or Autozone any Good ? Or should I just rebuild? TIA

Rebuild yours or find a good used one. Parts store remans are garbage.

It not just the parts store rebuilds that are garbage.

A lot of transmission shops suck too ..........

Find a GOOD reputable builder and pay for it once.

What trans is in the car? The 2004R is one of the toughest to build right but stock specs rebuild with minor upgrades should be more than enough behind a 4.3 for a ton of miles.

Of course building your own is great if your not afraid to tackle it and have the special tools. Otherwise be prepared to spend some $$$ on a reputable builder w/ warranty.
