I’m at a crossroads
I’ve got a 355 built for the el camino.
so I’ll remove the 305 and it’s backed up with a 200c

it’s seemingly in good shape and shifts great. Been rebuilt not that many miles ago in fact

I have a unknown condition 700r4 I was wanting to install and not worry about breaking

what’s the opinion. Toss the 200c back in until it breaks?

If it’s still got the 7.5 rear in it
Blow them up together and replace all later or baby them and somewhat drive the car

If the 200c has been rebuilt, it will likely have the improvements made that will make it last reasonably well. The one I have has held up to about 300 hp without complaint.

That being said, between the two it is more of a question of how much you want overdrive. A 700-R4 will require modifying the crossmember and changing your driveshaft length. It will give you a little lower first gear, though.

If you go 700 the xmember is an easy mod with a hammer and cut off wheel

I’m leaning towards the 200c just because it’s fresh
The truck has a 3.42 gear already and I don’t run it hard

The 700r4 will pair nicely with the 3.42s.
