60e's will work just fine behind mild builds if built well. But they really shine on stock (sub 400ft/lb) builds.


Interesting number. Since the 700 is the 60e sibling I don't see much difference in torque capacity. A nothing special 700 has been behind my 455 since 03 and Im guessing 550 tq. Its done quite a bit of racing and its not driven nice.

I would call your experience the exception, not the rule, at least based on my experience with those transmissions. I'm glad for you though. A 455 with overdrive is cool.

Not going to say their the best, far from it. I have a 4l80 waiting incase. Ive wrenched since the early 90s and pulled many a trashed 700 and 60e. Back in 03 when I asked our transmission shop if they can build a od for my car they said sure. Cruising on the hi way with the old gbody for up to 7-8hrs has been a hoot. lol
