I replaced the carb on my 86 cutlass with a 72 qjet. The carb didnt have the bracket for the transmission cable so i made one for it. I matched it up with my old carb and it looks(but obviously is not) the same. Now my car takes a second to shift while driving. Is there a way to adjust it? Or do I have to replace the cable? I have no ideal if it is to short or to long now. By the way it is a th250 transmission

On your downshift cable, where the body of it mouts to your bracket (under the throttle cable), you should see a snap lock type deal on the top side of the cable. Release the lock, (gently pry it upward), with car off, cycle to full throttle hold at WOT while pressing the lock back down. Adjustment done.

The lock I had on the TV cable on the 200 R4 was a push down button to release the shaft. The shaft was pulled back towards the firewall and then the button is released. The you use the lever on the carb and turn it to WOT and the TV cable will adjust itself when pulled towards the front

I'm not sure if the new carb will have the correct geometry for the the tv cable either.

Mine had the push button type but it worked like a charm. I never thought it would be that simple, car shifts like a champ. Thanks for the help.
