A couple of weeks ago I meet a guy at the local wrecker here who told me about a 83 Malibu he had and would like to sell it. I asked where it was hoping to go see it right away. Well he told me it was out of town about an hour or so. We had our Canadian Thanksgiving the weekend before last so I couldn't see it then as we were away. Anyway we arranged to go out yesterday to look at it. Well needless to say it wasn't worth the drive out.

One the way back I decide to tour through a couple of small towns on the way back. I entered one and saw a few cars sitting around this one place so decided to drive over. This is the one that caught me eye first..

I looked into the fenced area..and saw this..

Then my heart jumped a little as I looked and saw this..I've been really liking this body style..

they were all a little on the rough side...but 4 78-80 Cutlass's in one spot!...maybe a person could build most of one out of 4.
It was getting later in the day and turning chilly...I did get the name and number of the owner from a gas station nearby. Jumped in the truck and off
I was..

hit the next little town and saw a compound with a bunch of cars...in I go..saw this as I was pulling up..

a young guy comes out of a shop nearby as he saw me pull up..I went in where they were running a pretty healthy 350 on a stand.

the young guy says the Cutlass is his...given to him by his Grandpa who bought it new..

needs a little TLC..but it runs nice and the interior..well overall pretty nice..no cracks in the dash, headliner was up and everything was there...no rips or tears in the seat.

305 car...runs nice 160,000 klimoteres which is about 100,000 miles. after poking around I found that the rear rails are rusted. I told them I might be interested and told him to come up with a number...if he wanted to sell. He asked what I'd offer...I didn't want to but told him somewhere around $800-$1000. I've done the rear rails on a Camino so know what's involved.

So as I say this body style is really growing on me and it seems that maybe something is steering me in this direction...

Thanks for reading.....comments/criticisms welcome.

He's considering it I guess...I told him take a day or two...he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with it. When I showed him the rails and told him what you have to do to fix it right I may have swayed him a little. His dad was in the shop running the motor on the stand and I explained all that work to him...he seemed to think it was alot of work. Maybe I should have offered less!

However I posted up about this one as well...

1980 442 W30...this is probably the one a person should buy.

Nice pics, lot of good parts, interior especially. Hard to find good bucket seats & console anymore. It's a shame they left that 81 out to rot with no windows, doors...I bet that interior was nice before they left it out in the weather. Even had the rare vinyl ones.

Wow a lot of nice rides to bad they were left 4 dead...I here you on that olds body style they look very nice and beefy when done right

I like the first silver one with the faded hood. How bad was it?

I would say both bucket/console cars are restorable...but I guess anything is with the right amount of money. I haven't called on them yet. I'm going to see what I can work out...with a little luck maybe I can drag the best stuff home...although I'd have no place to put them.....

Wrong time for the in laws to be selling the 7 acre acreage they have and my wife won't let me buy 🙁 thus the reason for my Loss of Storage for sale threads.

If I can work a reasonable deal on them I will do my best to get them...they don't deserve to sit there and disinagrate into the earth. Even if they have to be parted out..

Is the manual transmission in the Malibu?

The Malibu is complete...except for broken front windshield. That's one I will be trying to bring home. I do know where there are two more.......actually 3 there is a nice one for sale locally for $1500.
