i put a 350 where a 3.8 was in a 84 non ss monte.
I didn't take the starter wires off of the 3.8 so I don't know how they were routed before.
the wires seem long enough to go all the way to the front of the engine and then snake back to the starter.
my other 305 monte was not like this.it was way shorter and went right from the back firewall right down behind the header to the starter.
was the v6 wiring different?

I did a 229 to 305 swap & just ran the starter wires as is. Just had to make sure the didn't hit the headers.

3.8 starter wires ran to the front of the engine on the passenger side, in the same loom the alternator was attached, then the loom curved down the front of the motor and back to the starter.

Yes, you should be able to do this. When I replaced my 231 with a 454, I ran the starter wires this way and they fit.
