There are some guys over on classicoldsmobile.com that are good at it. Being an 86, there should be a SPID tag on the inside of the trunklid. It has all the RPO codes to the car as long as no one switched the trunk.

That tag is still there. Those numbers are the build sheet right?

As long as it has G80 and F41, you're good.
That and a 9 instead of a Y in the vin number. Sure there's rpo codes and trim tag codes, but the 9 makes the rest not matter so much

I can tell you most of it right now….

1G3GK479xGPxxxxxx

Fill in the "x" parts and there's your VIN.

The first X will be your check digit, a mathematical number from 1-10 that will "verify" that a particular VIN adds up.

The last 6 X's is the Pontiac plant serial number of the car.

1 - Manufactured in USA
G - Manufactured by General Motors
3 - Oldsmobile Division
GK - Cutlass Salon Coupe Carline Series (Y78 option changes the VIN from GM47 to GK47)
47 - Coupe - 2 Door Notchback Special (Body Type Restraint System)
9 - 5.0L V8 4bbl (High Output) engine
x - Check Digit
G - 1986 model year
P - Assembled at Pontiac, MI
xxxxxx - Sequential Build Number

W42 on the SPID in the trunk says it has the 442 option.

Also, BD2 codes (ornamentation delete) and B99 (wheel opening molding delete) will be present on a 442 SPID.

And GT4 for the 3.73
