VIN number SS specific?

I have an 87 Monte Carlo SS. A guy that's interested in buying ran the VIN and said it shows a normal Monte Carlo. Is there a specific code that designates it as an SS?

8th digit in the VIN will determine which engine the car was "born with"
7- L69 305 cubic inch HO. 1983 Monte Carlo SS only
G- L69 305 cubic inch HO. 1984-88 Monte Carlo SS only
H- LG4 305 cubic inch. Non SS Monte Carlo.
