Hey Guys. I need to get more power out of my car. Its a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 with a 68-70 Olds Carbuerated 350 built with all edelbrock parts. Its got a nice size cam in it but I'm not really sure on the specifics. I just bought a new 1407 edelbrock carb and new hooker headers to replace the old ones. All I've really done to it is add a K&N air filter, tune up, adjusted timing, and I'm gonna be putting the new carb and headers on.

What are some fairly inexpensive ways to gain power. The car is quick but I want it fast. Its also got a 200r4 trans with a shift kit and high stall torque convertor. Its got a posi rear with 4.10 gears. I just think the car should move quicker for what its got. It will kick sideways no problem, but I wanna just have more go 😀

Let me know what your ideas are. Thanks guys 😀

Heres a few pics of the car...

NOS or ported heads are the only real big gains.

You have 4.10 gears and its slow? Anything with gearing will have some snap... If you want it to be "faster" you can always do more on the top end. More cam and a bigger carb. If you don't mind the lost fuel economy.

Bigger cam & bigger carb won't do $hit unless you have the heads to support the flow. HEADS, HEADS, HEADS!!

You say it has a decent size cam already. If it has a choppy idle, then you don't need a different cam. Get some better heads & that will satisfy you for awhile.

second the heads, especially if they are stock 350 heads.

No don't just throw a set of Edelbrocks on it and call it good. Buy them through an Olds vendor and have him do a basic relatively inexpensive street strip port & flow to the Edelbrocks. Then have him help you select or have a cam ground to match your heads and your car / goals. Now you will be VERY happy with the end result.

ill second Vern on this

those 68-70 heads where quite alright for your goal you already have 10.25 CR with your 350 .
you say you have a cam in there ...do you have any idea what cam it is ?

if you have 4:10 you should run in the lo 13's if your combo is right

a good porting & 3 angle valve job on your heads ia all it needs to live it up!

It cant hurt to contact an olds builder.

Terry from FCR has alot of experience with olds and will be able to answer any question that you have.

Personaly I would focus on the heads, cam (depending on what you have), intake(depending on what you have) and ignition setup/tuning.
