I'm looking for a Vin 9 cam, or similar grind for my 88 Cutlass 307. Not trying to hot rod the 307, just get a little more out of it. A used cam would be good, this is for my daily. I don't want to swap in a 350 or BBOs. I just built an Olds 358 for my Salon. I want to keep my daily simple.

Rock auto or your local parts store should have the cam/lifters.

Just because they're old, and the engine is gonna be apart, I would replace the springs, and valve stem seals, and timing set as well. You can use compressed air + a fitting (or wad up some thin rope in the cylinders [Don't loose it!]) to keep the valves from falling in so you can keep the heads on the engine.

Yeah I'm replacing the seals, valves and springs. Nothing wrong with the 307, it runs flawlessly. It does has 344,000 miles on it though. So I may as well get a lil extra umph out of it. I already have the A4 intake, making a purchase on a set of 5A heads. The rear end is set with 3.73 gears.

Coolio man. 344,000 miles? Holy crap. Most g bodies rust away by 100,000.

It cranks on the first turn and will spin the tires on the 22s if I stomp on it. At least it did before I installed the rear end gears. Now it changes gears quicker. But I'm working on that also. I forgot to mention it only smokes when oil is low, and it's not a smoke screen. Just a small lil vapor, u til it gets oil flowing again.

I got 450,000 km out of a 307, ran good and used very little oil till the timing chain jumped. Your timing chain is definitely due.
