I just bought a 1987 Regal, which had just been recovered by the previous owner after being stolen. I had to replace the tilt steering column due to being broken in two places on the drivers side of the column. The key side was not touched, but you could not start the car with the key since it was jammed. I was using a flat blade screw driver to push the rod in the column to start it and needless to say that got old real quick.
I picked up a tilt column with from a 1984 Regal, cleaned it up and installed it. Almost everything works, except for the warning chime to let you know that the key was left in the ignition, headlights are on and the seatbelt is not fastened. Also the parking brake warning lamp and fasten safety belt lights on the dash do not come on. The warning chime and lights did work with the broken column.
Did I miss swapping the warning chime module from the original column? I looked over both columns before I installed the column and plug ends all matched.
Could this problem be related to the fact that my original 1987 column was just a basic tilt unit and the 1984 replacement column has tilt, cruise and delay wipers? Also can someone tell me what this module looks like and where its located?
