Re: Water leak help!!!!UPDATE

JUST PULLED THE FENDER AND THE ONLY HOLE I SEE IS WHERE THE BOLT FOR THE FENDER GOES IN. I SEE WHERE THE LOWER BOX WAS SEALED BEFORE AND MAY NEED MORE SEALANT AND TOOK TRIM OFF A PILLAR AND AT VERY BOTTOM ON SIDE OF WINDSHIELD MAY NEED SOME SEALING. IF I DO THAT AND IT STILL LEAKS I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.

First off---TURN OFF THE CAPS LOCK!!.. It's considered as shouting...and it's downright annoying.

Secondly, no one is trying to jerk you around and make you take your fender off for no reason. We're here to help each other out. Why would anyone want to have a laugh at your expense. That's the craziest thing I ever heard.

I once had to remove the passenger side fender to seal a leak, and I'm sure many other guys had to do the same. I found an opening in the firewall to cowl seam.

There probably is several different threads on the subject. These cars are notorious for leaks. ..and they can be in any number of places.

While your fender is off, you might be able to pinpoint the leak better. Use your trusty garden hose, have a friend run the hose in any suspected areas while you're in the car with your maglite. Then go from there.

I'm not quite sure why you are wondering if people were jerking you around. You said that there are areas that may need more sealant so I assume you couldn't see those areas with the fender in place. The people in here are only relating to you what they have done to cure a problem and are trying to help. You don't have to listen to anyone in here if you choose and you can do it the way us old guys use to do it before the internet, trial and error...

Not trying to be a smart *ss but I'm no rookie at this either. People trying help said pull the fender and theres 2 holes that were filled with a foam sealant from the factory. Fender is off and like stated before no holes except for the fender bolt. So I don't understand what people ment. I was going to take pic to help others but theres nothing to take a pick of. There is one big hole that has a plastic plug but i could get at that without removing fender Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear. Anyway a friend gave me an idea to get a halloween fogger and put in car and look for smoke. Might work. At this point I will try anything. I appreciate the help and just getting more aggravted with this problem.

There are two holes one on the passenger side and the one on the driver side. The holes are right on the sheetmetal seams on each corner of the firewall. When I pulled my fenders I clearly saw the holes. To be clear these holes are not on the fenders or the hvac housing. They are in the sheetmetal seams on the firewall corners.

Thank you for your explantion where these holes are. I am 99% sure I have found it and have and sealed it but have to what for it to dry to check.
I also took pics so now everyone will know where to look but can't upload pics.If someone can send a email address to me so I can email them to you and you can post them. Thanks

Here are the pics he's talking about

Re: Water leak help!!!!SOLUTION??

Here's the deal. In process of installing fender I beliieve it's just a matter of unbolting hood hinge from fender and moving hood aside to get to this mystery GM glory hole. I unbolted hinge from fender it and lifted hood a little and put small 4x4 between glass and hood and used 2 hood props in pic or have someone help you.. Try this first before unbolting fender to save alot of unnecessary work. Might want to remove the tall rear fender bolt and remember to put the shims back for more access.

Looks like you have it down pat. It's not difficult once you're able to remove the wheel house, locate all the bolts and replace them and the shims the way that they were removed. Also suspending removing the hinge and supporting the hood.
You also have to loosen up the header panel. There's also bolts behind the headlamp doors.

Believe me, many of us can relate to your frustration. Sometimes the leak is in more than one place. Talk about wanting to tear your hair out. :? Good luck with your progress.

To be honest it was alot of wasted work. All had to do was unbolt r/s hinge mounts from fender and swing aside. Call it a street wise education. Not the first time. :?:
