As the title says, someone talked me into selling my 86 T Type. Don't miss it surprisingly, but the dark side of turbo Buicks must really be scrambling my brain because I bought a Japanese car. 😳 Took the money from the T, and turned around and bought this 74 Datsun 260z. I've always wanted a Z car but never could find one that wasn't a completely rusty pile of junk for a price I was willing to pay, so I nabbed this one, and even had some money leftover from selling the other car. Needs some work and it's dirty in the pics but I'm looking forward to fixing it up and driving it, just thought I'd share with you guys.

Welcome to the dark side.
Thanks! I plan on just driving it around for a while and if I love it (which I think I will as long as the ride isn't so harsh it F's my back up like my Jeep did), I plant to put a built standalone controlled 280ZX turbo engine and five speed in it. Or possibly an RB25DET out of a JDM R33 Skyline (or maybe even a Toyota 2JZ and R154 trans).

It's completely stock engine wise, 2.6 liter carbureted engine and automatic transmission. I think the only mods it has are the wheels, and it's sitting on eibach lowering springs and I think it has Koni struts.

You had me at RB25. Although finding a RB without sacrificing a kidney is a tall order.

You're sort of right, but from what I've been seeing, it looks like the price of them came down a bit over the years... I remember in the mid 2000's they really cost a fortune. Prices on JDM engines that used to be affordable (SR20DET's for example) seem to have gone way up.

I kinda think the L28ET might be the best choice just because it's a bolt in, and since the car only weighs like 2400 lbs it's going to be a rocket with like 300 horsepower which seems to be well within reason with the oldschool Datsun turbo engine from what I've read. An RB would be super cool though, and they do sound great.

I like the old Z's. I've had evil designs for a small V6 with a turbo and a manual trans.

Used to be a guy that had a t-Top here. Anybody hear what happened to him? Rumor has it that it was a tragic event

Why not swap in an NA RB? Skip the turbo lag all together and have it rev to to the moon and back

I don't know any car guy who wouldn't like that car, neat cars. You probably made the right decision, since you don't miss the T Type. Helps when we sell a car on our own terms. Many of the regret stories is selling a cool car is for some family mobile out of necessity.
