I'm driving down the road and everything is fine one moment, then while I'm slowing down at a stoplight the car runs terribly once it hits idle (feels like an ignition problem) and then sputters out and dies. The motor was totally warmed up.

I've had this same problem once before a few weeks ago. It also went away randomly. It did had a pretty bad miss at idle, replaced distributor cap about a week ago, fixed the miss. The car has no miss anymore. Has no problem above idle. Also seems kinda weak, like the car should have more power.

Now could someone tell me if a bad ignition coil (coil on top of the distributor cap) would cause this kind of problem? I'm running regular HEI, vacuum advance, no MSD, with initial timing at 15 degrees. The distributor and ignition module is about a month old, the cap is two days old, the rotor is also a few days old too.

I don't believe the coil has ever been changed, even after the rebuild a few years back.
