The striker is obvious (and very loose), but what is the vent looking thing for and what is that black lever type thing on the bottom? Thanks. It’s an ‘81 El Camino.

Black lever is the seat belt lock release lever. Know how when you pull the belt out you can get it to lock so it doesn't have constant tension? That's what does it. Vent is for the cabin. If there wasn't one, the fan wouldn't be able to blow air thru the heat or a/c because the inside of the car would be sealed.

You said your striker is loose. Does it tighten? If it just spins you have a PITA problem. The nut clip that holds it to the car could have rusted free.

the vents are for flow through ventalation and so you can close the door without having the cabin pressure fight you when you close the door.

I was hoping they weren’t important. Dang. My particular example is in no danger of being “sealed” for the time being, but I do want to get the seatbelts in order. Thanks for the info.
