Noticed I never posted a pick of the swap kit.
Haven’t pulled the plug yet but soon I’ll be ordering a converter, Holley trans harness, shifter for a 4l80 and searching options for and arb or axle mounted sway bar.

Oh, no! Not another obscure NOS part!

For the longest time, I was looking for a replacement RH coded 200-4R floor shifter cable for the standard Cutlass 4-speed auto shifter. Part # 22519497. This cable got replaced by 25537476 about 32 years ago. FYI, they each measure a nominal 25.5" eye to eye, center to center (extremely close to that, I just used a tape measure).

Then one shows up on ebay to which I got a notice for. A lot of times, they turn out to be an aftermarket replacement, so lots of false alarms. But this time it was for real. There was someone else really interested in it as well, so a bidding war was on, which I eventually won. Kind of a rare thing, since I usually don't win those bidding wars. I already have several 7476 cables, but there's a difference in how the cables look.

I paid dearly for it, but essentially it didn't cost me anything really. I have one of those "pay me back" a percentage of purchases you make credit cards. I pay for nearly everything with it. They give you 2, 3 or 5% of your purchases back in "points" which accumulate. I pay it off in full every month, and have acquired ZERO interest payments using the card. So essentially, they pay me to buy stuff. I have several hundred dollars in points accumulated, so periodically I just apply the points to my monthly bill. FREE MONEY. So even though I paid 177 and change for this cable due to the "bidding war", I didn't complain too much because I was playing with house money. I consider it a free play. Had I used money out of my own pocket, I'd probably wouldn't have got it. All in all it wasn't too terrible, considering I've seen early GM dual-gate cables and GM Lightning Rods cables go for about that or even more sometimes.

Regardless, I ended up with a later version of it. Early on, it had an "RH" code for it as well as they went to a yellow with black "RH" on the 9497 cabes, but this one has the "RHs" code sticker on the cable, meaning it was made sometime AFTER 1985, and definitely came on the 87-88 TH200-4R floor shift applicatons. Not sure about 86 versions though. Still the same cable and part number, just the sub-S code for it. Whatever that means. The factory tags were a bit longer, but this one sorta wraps around the cable a bit. Anyway, the main difference is the rubber boot at the transmission end of the cable is very different. The 7476 cable looks a lot like the aftermarket accordian style boots. Nothing wrong with it, as in actuality it's less stress on the boot when it flexes. The boot on the 9497 has a much more sparse accordian style to it, but in doing so, it puts more stress on the rubber boot and over time these tend to crack/tear right at these inside "crinkled" areas. The point is, it's the CORRECT look and CORRECT part number for the application. I've already got the correct "RH" cable ID tag (with no sub-S) made for it. :)

For reference, here's a pic of my 87 442's original cable tag...the 85 has an "RH" white with black lettering going 90 degrees to this.

So, are you gonna run with it when the time comes, or, fire up the ol label maker and reproduce an original style (to your 85) tag to put on the correct shaped cable?

I already have the labels printed and cut. I'll be going with the "RH" label as found on the 85.

Managed to pick up a set of 062 Vortec heads at the Pittsburgh Upull, I guess the cashier felt bad for me since I had to drag them across the yard using a cut serpentine belt over my shoulder with one end tied to each head and rung it up as a wheelbarrow sale

Was it the cute black haired girl with glasses? Seems like she cuts me some good deals with all the crap I drag in.
