Natasha ran off last night with our oldest for a play date and left me with the fussy 2 year old. So I packed us up in the wagon and took her for a drive to calm her down, stopped for ice cream, took the long way home, and then stopped at the park. She does love cruising.

I feel your pain. I have a 2 year old and a two week old. I left my 2 year old sit on my lap and drive around the driveway.

Nice! I did that same thing with our 4 year old a few weeks back in our Monte. Thankfully they have their own Corvette - granted our youngest jumped into the driver's seat and repeatedly drove into me last night before we left. That's what I get for leaving the battery connected and the keys in the ignition.

I pulled down one of my spare hoods at work yesterday and took a really good look at it. Its white but deeply oxidized with some stone chips up top and caked in undercoating on the backside.

This morning we gave it the comet and magic eraser treatment to get rid of the heaviest stuff and it came out OK ( ish ). A test corner with rubbing compound then sealer came up pretty good actually.

Looking around work here I dug up half gallon of gasoline, a quart of semi gloss black, lacquer thinner, and a crappy old spray gun. Hopefully we will clean and paint the backside.

Tonight I will grab my buffer, pads and compound for the topside.

I am not a detailer nor a painter but I think today I will let my 16 year old have a go at cleaning this old hood up. He's scraping the undercoating off now with a plastic scraper, then on to the gasoline. It wont be perfect but hopefully he can take some interest or pride ( hopefully both ) in it.

If it turns out decent then we can swap the hoods with the one on the car and repeat the process.

I feel I need to point out I am struggling against the pull towards social media and sheer teenaged laziness. I would have loved something like this as a kid. Him, he is "Meh" on the whole idea.

Well, I actually had my rear end in the truck ready to go to town like 2 months ago it seems though it was only a month [only], but had to actually unload it to do more pressing things and still haven't gotten back to it. Bear in mind, going to town is an hour one way. Good news is on the interior gut, dynamat everything, new headliner, new [speaker] lower door panels, new sound system, battery relocate, custom power shelf, I got back to everything is organized . . . got things prioritized, even written down if you can believe that, and the shop cleaned and straightened up again.

And, the rear end is back in the truck again . . . hey I have to go to town in the next 3 days to renew my license or I'll be like considered an illegal alien here in Kansas and there will like be a shoot on sight warrant out for my arrest [or something like that??] so no choice but to drive clear in to Wichita now . . . and this week or else!!!

Might as well take the rear end with me . . .

Plus, it's my birthday this week. Survived another year . . . celebrate by getting that freakin rear end done-done!
Well guess I better wait until my actual birthday to get all cocky about surviving another year, huh?!

Happy birthday Garth. Even if it's a little early.
