I had to break out my "mobile" welding unit and wire it into the house to get the backside of my Jeep's rock slider welded in. While my 110 MIG welder didn't have any issues welding the top side, welding overhead was absolutely worthless. My bead would just run back into the gun and plug it up.
I ended up dragging out my early 50's Marquette 300B buzz box, adding a breaker and plug to the houses fuse box, and burning it in with some 7018s. That welder is reliable as an anvil, but it is also as heavy as an anvil and damn does it love power.
The bad thing is, I bought the box of 7018s yesterday and when I checked the date code on the box they were made in March of 2014. Still burned like they should, but apparently the local hardware store doesn't sell many stick welder rods anymore.
