Muncie rebuild day- the guys at AutoGear said that the relationship between the syncro and cone on the gear is like rings on a cylinder bore. 4th looks glazed to me. I have to press the main shaft apart yet, but this moreorless confirms my suspicion of why it was acting up. Under full throttle, it was fine. It wouldn't come out of gear after a part throttle cruise. I think the syncros were sticking.
Those brass syncros get lapped in, don't they? I thought my cone surfaces were a bit glazed on my T56 as well. For as healthy as the blocker friction surfaces were I would have expected better WOT shifting.
I used 220 grit and WD40 on mine. Have yet to see how it drives though, we got about 6" of snow yesterday.
What are you gonna use on yours? I tried to make a sort of cross hatch pattern too. Not sure if that's right or wrong but we'll find out soon enough.
No idea- just wingin' it!! RoLoc on the gear and ScotchBrite on the brass?
