Hey guys, I finally started working on fixing all the damage I did with 'oil on bondo' incident. Bascically remove all tge bondo that got oil in it, which is a lot. Just wondering, would it be better to use regular bondo or kitty hair in the roof seams? I have both, I'm just wondering which would be better.

I have had good results with Evercoat. Also known as: FIB-889, FIB889; Aluminum filled body repair filler for metal surfaces. Has excellent corrosion resistance and superior adhesion to galvanized steel and aluminum. Will not sag. Best known as the "nearest thing to lead." Moisture proof. Easily sands to a fine featheredge. It's fairly strong and works well on seams like that.

I used Bondo's version of Aluminum filled body filler, it is harder and more brittle because of it. It has cracked badly for me. Read online that most autobody guys hate that type of filler and that the Aluminum powder doesn't interlock like fiberglass, so it doesn't really reinforce the filler. In that area you will want a flexible filler since that area flexes alot. If your body bushings are in bad shape, any filler will fail there quickly.

The best fillers I have read are Evercoat's RAGE line of fillers, and their new epoxy based Quantum1 filler.

I also use the metal to metal.

I'm more afraid of it flexing and cracking than anything else. I guess I'll use kitty hair, and then smooth it over with regular bondo.

Stay away from Bondo brand, it is consumer grade crap. Evercoat is one of the better brands, you can't buy the good stuff at a chain store like Autozone or Advance Auto or even NAPA. You can get the good stuff either from a Auobody paint and supply store, or off from the internet.

NAPA does sell Evercoat, we have it on the shelf.

The last time we filled a body seam in we used kitty hair. It worked really well, actually. No cracking problems with it. I think thats what i'm going to use on me side seams when I get to the body work phase on my car. When I took my vinyl top off, the filler that was there just fell out.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I don't believe this to be true. I talked to several body guys about this exact issue, and though they wanted to say it was crap, not one of them could think of a single instance to prove it to be true.

cracks come from too thick an application (just like trying to put on too thick of a coat of paint results in sags and the like) or the wrong material being used (inflexible material). flexing is ok and in seams like this you want it to expand and contract with the metal. or would you prefer it not flex and have it crack so you can redo it and learn not to use the wrong material the second time you work on it?
