I looked for this answer in all the many speaker posts but could not find it. For my 86 GP, I need to replace the rear 4x10 speakers. I have read different things and seen many aftermarket speakers of different impedance values, and all say they will work. But I'm pretty sure they should be matched to the factory radio requirements. So what IS the proper value...4...8...10 ohm? My factory radio still works so I'd hate to burn it up with the wrong speakers. Thanks!

I just went through this.........

Stock radio use 10 from factory.

I used Pioneer TS-A4103 in the rear

and

BOSS Audio Systems BRS35 up front

Becareful with your front speaker choice because a lot of the 3.5's have a lip that interfers with the grills

Both are 4 ohms and work great and sound great with the stock radio.

Also one of the reasons I went with these speakers is because of the operating range.

The wattage required for these speakers matches the stock radio output

Turna. Did you put speakers in your Cutlass or Malibu? Wanting to replace the front speakers in my 87 442, and looking for something that will drop in without hacking up the grills, etc..

The BOSS 3.5 is the ONLY speaker that drops right in on the Cutlass with no grill interference and allows the grill to sit perfectly flat on the dash

And yes they sound gooooooooooooooooooooooooood.

I do not have an amp going to them

Maybe I'll do a sound clip later since I have all speakers hooked up and tuned now.

But, GM was special and used 10ohm speakers. Reducing the impedance does nothing more than make the THD on the amp go up and work it a little harder. The perception will be that it "seems" louder, but, in reality, you just don't have to turn the volume knob up as high to get the same level.

so, win win.

I stand corrected, thank you for the information!
