I have an OTC 3111 Pro that I love. I stupidly ruined the male end of the cable that plugs in to the car's female data port (don't ask). I broke the batt+ pin among other things. I butchered it up but managed to fix it but I don't trust it long term. I was perusing the various scan tools available and for under $200 OTC is still a pretty good buy. But there are several models and am I correct in reading they are all updated to 2010 specs? That's 8 years old already. Is that a standard of some sort? I am tempted to just get another 3111 Pro or are they too dated? What do you guys use?

The new ones they have do everything!!!!!

I bought a Nook-a-saki-ding dong brand off ebay years ago does everythig I need and even has web support that actually works.

As you can see it is a copy of another brand since the RUN button says FUN
And it technically is an OBD II CAN tool.:blam:

The orange one looks a lot like the one I gave away. It would not talk to my '05 Cobalt because of CAN. Those others look good.

IF you need it for modern cars this one can't be beat for the price, it'll do OBD I as well (supposedly, haven't tried it out) and reads ABS and Airbag codes. For the last 15 years I'd been using an Actron from Sears, but I needed to read body codes for GM cars so I picked up this scanner. It's pricey at $200 but if it lasts as long as my previous one (which actually still works) I won't complain. A good scan tool can pay for itself just in saving you 1 visit to the dealer!

If youre serious about car repair, talk to your local Snap On dealer. They often have scanners traded in and will give smoking deals on them. I bought my Modis off the truck, worked great, but was only updated to 2010 at the time, but it was 2016 when I bought it. Only paid $400 for it. Considering they go for 6k to start I thought that was a great deal!
