Never seen a factory installed 350 in a box Chevy. Should get the numbers and codes off the pad at the front of the block behind the alternator.

Found the block cast numbers! Added carb and head pictures if anyone has details on those. And comes with MSD spark plug wires that need a cleaning 👍🏻

Is it common to put tbi heads with the intake and carb it has right now?
For those wishing to convert a TBI truck engine to carb, this would be very common to slap that intake/carb/dizzy w vacuum on there. Being there's a mechanical fuel pump on it already, well there's no guessing if the block was machined for the fuel pump push rod. I think at low lifts, the TBI heads aren't too objectionable for street use.

638 block - 350 roller block capable- it's a keeper. If it's not a roller block, then it's an easy conversion to a roller block with a set of dog bones and dog bone retainer. Those heads are most likely swirl port as Gwarren79 mentioned - they are by far just about the worst head that GM ever put on a 350 from a performance standpoint. But they will run, just don't expect any decent numbers from them.

Yes and no. For what they were intended for, they did great. That was to deliver torque down low, below 3750 rpm. If you wanted a torquey 350 this was it. Add a .450 lift I/E decent flat tappet (under 212* @.050) or a roller under 215* (@.050) and the drive was amazing.

and if you can get a decent rearend ratio in your axle (3.08 and up, I would say), then you'll really have a great time

3750....................................smh.

And yes, I know torque down low is great, but listening to it make power rather than laying over at 6K is much more exciting.
