I just bought an 86 Grand Prix roller. It originally came with a 305. I’m trying to figure out what would have been in there originally.

Shift indicator in the dash could narrow down 3 or 4 speed. RPO code???
Borrowed this from another site...I initially posted it then pulled it back since it was only Chevy. Revisted site but doesn't have any poncho listings...

I believe for 1986, the V6 versions got 200C trans, and the V8 cars got 200-4R.

Here's the transmission codes you would seek if you wanted a code matching transmission.

4.3L for 86 GP also had 3 speed with optional 200-4R. So there's that.

2+2 was standard with 305/200-4R.

This chart probably helps break it down a bit better. Don't be fooled by the MD8 transmission (700-R4) designator. It was only in the B-body.

You should also see MX0 and/or MW9 on the trunk SPID sticker as well. It is an 86 after all. Unless it's missing.
