Guys please help me here. I have a 86 Cutlass Supreme. The transmission went on it after i whipped some mustand the other day. I have the th200 3 speed in it. Having a hard time finding that transmission at the auto salvage yards. Im wondering what transmissions will bolt right in? Will the th400? the th250/350? the th700? I just want one that will bolt right in because Im gonna take my time and rebuild my transmission with good parts. Help a fellow G Body lover out here. thanks
Th350 short tail is a direct bolt in, with the execption of, if you have a floor/consle mounted shifter, the bracket is a bit different (you can fanangle it until you find the correct pieces so no big deal). Make sure, you find the correct bellhousing, good luck..
Oh and don't bother rebuilding the 200 metric, build the th350 instead, much better transmission to begin with, cheap to build, and lots of aftermarket support.
wait a second...I still want to drive it on the highway. will the 350 be ok? I was hoping to find one for cheap from a junkyard or something. That way if it goes down the road Ill have a good core to rebuild. Whats so wrong with rebuilding the 200? And no I dont have a floor shifter, I have it on the tree.

if your th200 was fine on the highway then a th350 will be just as good .... people with 3.73:1 gears or so start seeing issues on the highway with a 3 speed .... I don't really want to highjack the thread talking about gear selections and drivablity though. If your car had a th200 in it and it was happy then a th350 will be reliability upgrade. In fact I am going to assume you have factory "highway gears" in the back of the car .... an overdrive (.67 4th gear for the 200-4r) will be way too much. I'd recomend not swapping in a 200-4r till you have atleast a 3.42:1 rear gear
I have seen 3.08s & 3.23s work fine with a 200-4R with a stock 307 or a big block. If he is salvage yard hunting and plans to upgrade the interstate gears that are probably in it anyway I would skip the th350 and do a 200-4R. But if he is going to keep the stock gears then by all means go th350.

What's wrong with the 200 metric is that they don't live very long. They were a cheap light weight alternative to the th350, there is no point to rebuilding one because of its lack of reliability, a th350 will last much longer, and actually be much cheaper to rebuild if it ever needs it. I used my th350 with 2.41's on the highway and was able to cruise at 75-80mph at about 2500rpm , so yes by all means you can use it.

well i tried the 3 auto salvage yards near me and nothing. bone dry at the boneyard. guess ill turn to craigslist. If anyone has a th350 transmission that will bolt right into my 86 supreme let me no. Or if you gottta th200 3speed that your dam near willing to give away (cause their sh*t) let me no. thanks
Try to get your hands on a 700-r4.......... Where are you located anyways? There is a "Boneyard" salvage yeard in Dansville, N.Y. I am in that area...Just cusious is all.
