Curious what you guys think a MC 86 SS is worth approximately. Really want a monte carlo, have been looking for at least 6 months now every day on craigslist. But I do believe his asking price is a bit out of my price range. I am going to say this is worth ~5000? But since many of you on here already own or have owned numerous MCs and are much wiser in that sense, your opinion before I actually buy a car would be appreciated.

Here in Michigan a clean unmolested t-top Monte SS like that would sell fast at $6000 + and could probably get a few grand more depending on miles, options and how well it was maintained and drives.

So I called him up before I even posted cause he didn't have a price stated in his posting, but to clarify, there is no rust, everything works he says, windows, guages.100k original miles. In his posting he says...

Current smog just passed
tags good till feb 2016
Clean title
Fresh paint
T tops
Bucket seats
Floor shift
Over drive transmission
Rebuild carburetor 4bbl quadrajet Rochester
New alternator
New battery
New waterpump
New thermostat
New front suspension new bushings
New bearings and alignment
Fresh tune up
Original paperwork/ owners manual
Lots of new parts

He is asking 7500 OBO. So obviously 7k no questions, but I think I could get him down lower. He seemed ready to part with it.

Swing at the knees not the head lol you offer a price way low then to climb up to a agreeable price range. Now dont go and offend the guy with a lowball offer. That is one real clean MC. When they add little things like new this new that I dont really pay much attentiob unless documented. When I bought my cutlass the owner said "new exhaust" the only new about it was the muffler and it really did not look too new.

Offer 5K and be ready to not hear from him again. But have 6K ready in case he counter-offers. Then go get it before it gets away.

That looks like a 6-7k car to me. I would start at 5500 and go from there.

I would say $5000 and go up, ask if he has the original Monte SS wheels, the IROCs look good, but, well, you know.

I am of the mindset (albeit antiquated) that $7500 buys you exactly what you want in a G-body short of Turbo Buick stuff. Now, that is just me, and I have the fortune of living where they don't get too much rust beyond some in the passenger floor and sometimes in the trunk.

The underhood pics look unmolested, I really look for that in a car, now, that said, it can be engine missing with nothing cut if that makes sense. Next is clean and complete interior. Body work is dead last for me, and white can and will hide alot.
