I bought some older ZQ8's over the winter and decided to slap them on to see if I like the look on my car. The tires are shot and I would obviously get larger ones than the 225's that are currently on them (probably 245 or 255/50), and it would surely need a 2" or so drop to look right as well. I would also like to "go over" them as there is some minor peeling clear and nicks that can be taken care of. I thought I wouldn't like it without the RWL, but I think this wheel suits these cars well with the flat design.

What do you guys think? ZQ8's or stock 86-88 SS wheels?

Edit: the forum isn't allowing the images to be posted directly for some reason, so here are some links with both wheels:

I'd go with the stock rims. The other rims take away from the apperance of the SS. But then I think that G-Bodies look better with some type of deep dish wheels and not the flush wheels. That is a sweet looking SS you have.

Thanks guys. I like both, but think I was/am just looking for something different since I have had the same style wheels for nearly 8 years or so. I will likely refinish the ZQ8's and use them when I want a different look.

I agree on preferring the deeper dish - its too bad GM didn't make the ZQ8's with about a 2" lip on them as the mounting flange is about 3" or more deep inside the wheel.

There is a later S truck ZQ8 wheel, that is a 5 spoke wheel that has a slighly deeper dish to it. Its a 16"X8" wheel that can be had as a set of 4 from GM performance parts.

Yes, I love those wheels and thats what I was looking for, but haven't been able to find a set yet (used).

Stockers it is 🙂 I put them back on and plan to have the car lowered a couple inches. I will probably refinish the ZQ8's when I get a chance and use them for "something different" now and then 😀

Looking for something like this when the ZQ8's are redone (would probably keep painted areas though instead of completely polished):

you'll appreciate how the car handles when you lower it. I have my GP lowered about an inch with Eibach springs and they saved my car this aft. I was cut off on the highway with a van from the next lane diving right in front of me and there was a wall to the right of me. The car sat nice and straight while I slammed on the binders then swerved around him..with the stock suspension I don't think I would have made it.
