Nope they switched from standard(7/16x20) to metric(12x1.5) in 82, i think. I'm sure someone will correct me if I got it wrong.

It's something like that I beleive. If you have swapped rears with a newer G-body with the metric studs you can always get 20 lug nuts and when it's time to do the front brakes order a set of rotors for a 87' Cutlass

For '82-'88 it is. For '78-'81 its 7/16-20.

The '78-'81 also take a different outer wheel bearing compared to the '82-'88 spindle. So you'd want to double check before swapping brakes around. I don't remember if its the spindle size that's different or if its ID of the brake hub thats different in size.

so much for JUST buying new 82-up rotors/lug nuts when i put my 8.5" in .... guess I am gonna have mis-matched lugs. Well thanks for saying something Andy

why not just change the wheel studs to suit your needs

figured I'd jsut replace the rotors (not likely needed) but maybe I'm just lazy .... seems like extra effort just to slap the same old rotors back on the car .... and then when I need rotors to change out the studs again! .... where as if "G" rotors fit, it would probably cost about the same as having studs pressed in. I've been contiplating some S-series discs front and rear .... so I may not even be dealing with a mis-match for too terribly long anyways. the right lugs for N78 rims aren't the cheapest either

the only difference in rotors is the early years had a smaller outside bearing. The difference between the metric and standard stud diameter is almost negligible and the studs can be tapped into place and then pulled to seat them with a wheel nut

Didn't know that about the 82+ wheel bearings, that's pretty interesting. Yeah then in that case you can just hit the studs out and then put the new ones in.
