I know this has been covered before many times, but with ls swapping and power increasing, what’s the widest rear tire possible. Frame notch and minor tubbing is obviously needed. I have 285 nittos nt05 on mine now and it spins like crazy. Even if I could fit a 335 or 345 in there, would there be much gain because the car is so light in the rear. I know racing is for the track but I’d like to gain a little more grip on the street. Would a ballast box be a better option? Or do I need better tires? I need to be ready to spank a hell cat or vette if the opportunity presents itself.

Since there seems to be too much power, or better torque in your case at the rear, I would think about regearing to a numerically lower axle ratio to get the given power to the ground. That, in combination with a more sensitive right foot should do the job.

I fit 315/35R17s on 17x11s in the back of my old Turbo T with the stock frame - it did 1.7 60 foot times.

Work on your suspension, that would help the most.

285 what? I agree with the work on your suspension.

Which car in your sig are you talking about? I had zero problem hooking a sticky 275/45/17 on the street with all fresh bushings, boxed control arms, and SSM lift bars with around 400hp at the crank.

85 6.0 turbo. 285 35 18. I have new shocks, boxed arms with delrin bushings. I went with Nitto nto5, they’re supposed to be a high performance tire. I might try the nt05r next.

Okay, that makes more sense, the thinner the sidewall the tougher it is to hook up, you need the flex.
