Do you have any cliffs in Saskatchewan?
There is a fairly steep valley about a 1/2 hour away, hmm...... I may try another ECM, sick of sinking time and money into this "easy" swap. Before the heads cracked, this truck when running right, was intermittent before, would pull hard off the line to 5500 rpm. I was hoping for high 14's before this, now I just want something that doesn't run like sh*t. The Olds powered 4x4 was a Z71 with an open diff, who in the hell would order that? I got a good deal on a gov bomb and held up to very minor off roading and pulling the boat.

I got to work on the truck last night. The replacement rear end is in the truck. I need to get a gasket for the cover and put some gear oil in it. I should be able to do that stuff tonight.

I put gear oil in the rear end last night. A guy that works with me needed a ride this morning so I volunteered to go get him so I could test drive the truck. It's a 4 mile round trip. The rear end did fine but the truck started over heating on the way back. There isn't any pressure on the top radiator hose so I'm thinking I've got a thermostat sticking. I'll probably swap thermostats tonight and see if that's the problem.

Make sure you use a thermostat with a relief hole or drill a hole so if the thermostat sticks you will still have flow.

Just letting you know they are out there. Blazers, Suburbans, mine was OEM.

Did you score that vortec short block for $100 that was near you?

I still can't find any evidence that GM ever put anything other than a Gov-Loc in these trucks. Did you buy the truck new?

I found a Vortec core at work with heads for $200.

The heads will most likely be cracked. But, it will be a hydraulic roller cam!

My 1991 4WD square body Suburban has that style posi.
My 1989 2WD long bed has one.

I bought one from a 2WD Suburban to swap into an 83 C10 shortwide with a 454.

They are out there. 30 spline started in 88 or 89.

Kind of like aluminum core supports, aluminum hoods and trunk lids for G-body cars or 8.5 rearends in Turbo Buicks, Olds 442, and some wagons.
