What's up all. I haven't posted in a while and honestly, I kind of forgot I had this account. But before everyone jumps on me to search. I've tried that and couldn't find anything. My small block is brutally tired. It smokes, burns oil, and is a total dog. So I've decided to swap the motor in the spring. I'm looking into the year one power crate 350. I'm looking for some feedback on the motor if anyone has any. Or any other options that can deliver the same power for the money.

Seems like your run of the mill Vortec Headed 350. From the bore and stroke, actually a 357 or somewhere around there. Seems like a stout engine, but what I'd be looking into, is if you found a decent used Vortec 350, if you could build it yourself for cheaper.
It could just be me though, I'm always weary of crate engines (even if they are done well), I'd want to build it myself. But I understand that not everyone wants to do that.

I have about 2000-2500 in my engine, it made 311hp/324tq to the tires. Pretty similar specs wise.

It looks like a nice engine for the money. I wish they published the cam specs. I wonder what everyone's opinion is on 12" of vacuum being enough for power brakes? For everyone else, here is a link to the Year One engine....

Looks like it's a used block that's been bored 0.040" over.
For comparison, this is the engine I bought for my car....

A little less power, no flexplate and no intake but all new and published cam specs.

I found some reviews on the Year One engine.......

Hope this helps...

If I had the knowledge (and time) to build my own motor I definitely would try that route. I was thinking of doing a 5.3 ls swap. But I figured a crate motor would be a little easier for me. And especially now knowing how to build an engine

Meh.....
I'd put the money toward something original. Not OEM, but something built for me. I just don't feel right telling someone at a car show or the track "I just ordered it out of the YO catalog". Not my style....

Trust me I'd love a turbo ls, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards for me at the moment. Pops inst sold on the fuel injection and computer tuning, or the fact of putting a junkyard motor in the car lol. I wouldn't tell people my motor came out of a year one catalog

If its from Year One it is most likely overpriced for what it is.
