I know I'm beating a dead horse on this but here it goes. Trying to figure out which stainless exhaust kit to use between Summit (680146-SS) & Pypes (SGG12S), want to get it before Summit's sale is over tomorrow. The big thing is I'm still hung up on using an X pipe or not. I want what will work best with the 350 (10.25:1, Holley 4175, Elderbrock 2101+3701, some porting done on the heads, manifolds, Pypes down pipe, cats) for power & economy. I've been watching videos & reading what I find on Google about pros & cons, checking company product reviews. The thing is the car will be a crusier & not see any track time (unless I pony up on the rearend.) I know there are members with Pypes kits but haven't heard anything on the Summit kit.

the only think the X pipe with change is the tone of your exhaust, an X will give it a higher tone and the H will give it a lower tone

On my latest Malibu I used an X pipe.

The one thing I really like about true dual exhaust, 2 separate pipes is it easier to diagnose if and where an issue is coming from.

I'd go with the pypes, that 304 stainless steel will outlast that Aluminized all day.it's a little more $ but it'll last.that and the summit looks like a cheap mess to assemble.i can't imagine summit did nearly as much r&d on a universal-ish exhaust kit like pypes does.as far as a crossover goes, any crossover will help vs none

I personally like H-pipes for ease of installation and less clearance issues and I feel they are easier to retrofit on an existing dual exhaust system.
I might look at trying an X-pipe for my Regal when I install the new engine and headers and tap into the existing 442 exhaust.

I noticed a major difference in tone going from true duals to an h pipe. But I notcied no performance gain (had it on the dyno with both setups. Difference was marginal in my case).

I have heard that an h pipe will give you a deeper tone (which i noticed) and an x is a little more raspy (no experience with this.)

I've been going back & forth with your video clips & I'm liking all the sounds. I want the semi socialble sound to give me the fill of a muscle car. But with no noticable gains on performance would just go with the straight pipes. For economy did you notice any changes?
You might have to turn this up REALLY LOUD to hear it, but pretty sure the black car has an H, and my red car has an X. Both 455, 4 speeds
All I could hear was the back 442, sounds good. Wish I could hear yours to compair.
